A commentator on my previous post asks "If the Green Movement (sic) was irrelevant then why did the regime BAN THE COLOR GREEN from the flag."
It was funny that he or she posted that comment now because conincidentally I was reviewing some old posts and was going to write a "Whatever happened to..." post to keep track of past silly claims and scaremongering about Iran that seem to have since disappeared from the public consciousness (remember how Ahmadinejad was supposedly secretly jewish?), and one of these issues was the so-called "Banning of the Color green" story that was so widely promoted around the time of the rioting in 2009. Back then, I wrote a post about how the self-appointed "opposition" has resorted to relying on such silly claims because they were desperate to prove their own relevance.
In fact, one of the websites that promoted that story was Enduring America. Commentators on that webpage pointed out to EA's Scott Lucas that the claim that Iran supposedly "banned" the color green from the Iranian flag was patently ridiculous because the photos Scott used to "prove" this allegation clearly show Ahmadinejad standing right next to the Iranian flag, which continues to display a green bar. Scott eventually responded that he was just being "tongue in cheek" but since then the comments seem to have simply disappeared from EA's webpage, including Scott's admission that he was (supposedly) just acting tongue in cheek.
Funny, that...
Of course Scott could say that he was merely reporting what others had stated...which is what we call rumormongering, Scott, not news.
Cyrus,
This post made me put this photo essay together:
