I have to say that nowdays I wish there was no internet because what I read everyday is so depressing. I realize that the myth of the US as the "land of the brave and home of the free" was always precisely that, a myth (ummm...slavery?) but nowdays a simply click of a button shows quickly to what depths this nation has fallen, where legal advisors to presidents say that crushing a child's testicles is acceptable, and UN ambassadors openly ridicule international law, torture is legalized and unpunished, and Vice Presidents get their faces spat upon by "allies" and Presidents are apparently entirely helpless in shaping this nation's foreign policy is the face of foreign lobbyists. And that's all just the result of only 10 minutes of casual browsing. I shudder to think what a few more minutes of browing on things such as the cost of education and social disparity would show. (Average CEO pay is 344 times the pay of an average U.S. worker - in other words the average CEO earns in a day what an average worker earns in about a year.)
My God, is this the America that is supposed to be winning "hearts and minds"? This is a slow motion crash, baby, a crash.
Cyrus,
Today, the US administration proved that in contrast to their rhetoric, they really don’t care much for the American service personnel who put their lives on the line to defend their country.
President Obama has thus far been categorical on the issue of Israel, having to stop settlement building in east Jerusalem. In fact we all saw some rising tension in between the US administration and the Israelis over the same issue in the past week or so.
Today, the administration seem to have somewhat done a U-turn. The Secretary of State Hillary Clinton dismissed that US / Israeli relations are in crisis, Clinton further added that the two nations hold “a close, unshakable bond” and “hold common gaols”. This is whilst the Israeli PM and his entire cabinet have expressed that building plans will continue regardless.
Clearly, this sudden U-turn stamps the end of Obama’s credibility. In fact you may say that Obama’s gamble didn’t pay off, the root of Zionists just runs too strong in the US politics.
One man’s vanity, even if that man is the most powerful man on the planet, crushed by the lobbyists is one thing, but how can he accept to compromise the lives of service personnel fighting in Iraq, Pakistan and Afghanistan, knowing full well that his yet again another oversight to an act of injustice could result in American lives being lost in those countries.
My hope and confidence in the President of the United States fell sharply today. I commended Obama’s initial approach against the fascist government of Israel but it was truly disappointing to see him bow down.
What stagers me even more is how the US citizens are prepared to sit back and watch their government pay $2.5B+ of their tax money to the state of Israel as aid. Similarly, why do they allow the US government to send American men and women to be killed in wars that are fought, ultimately in the interest of state of Israel?
