Glenn Greenwald on the media's coverage of the recent "exposure" of the (not really) "Secret!" Iranian enrichment facility in Qom:
Despite all the rhetoric about Iran getting caught red-handed -- it was Iran itself which notified the IAEA of this facility; the facility is far from operational; and there's no evidence that it contains or even can produce weapons-grade material. Until there's an IAEA inspection -- which Iran said it would permit -- it's impossible to know the true purpose and capabilities of this facility, which is the cause for the Chinese's skepticism and should cause skepticism among every thinking person, beginning with the American media. Can anyone point to any such skepticism anywhere? Listening to the media coverage, one would think that Iran just got caught sitting on a secret atomic bomb.
Meanwhile, Iran's representative to the IAEA has expressed surprise at the anti-Iran propaganda onslought:
Salehi also expressed bemusement over the harsh international reaction to the new plant, insisting that 'whatever we did was within the legal framework and in line with all IAEA regulations.'
These, he said, stipulated that any nuclear plant should be brought to the attention of the IAEA six months before going operational.
'In the case of the new plant, we did it even more than a year (before the operational phase),' he said, indicating that the plant would not become operational before the end of 2010.
'We are really surprised about the international reactions - there is no basis for them,' he added.
In his speech, Gordon Brown decided to hit the world with his goodwill gesture, announcing that the U.K. was reducing the number of their nuclear submarine from 4 to 3. He’s intention is to enhance his popularity amongst the international community whilst his popularity amongst his own people is fast crushing down to rubble.
People of this world must realise that;
1) The U.K. government is in the worst financial mess through out it’s history and needs to cut cost at an unprecedented scale, therefore they decided to pull back a few billion pounds through reduction of their submarine. This cheep stunt has nothing to do with clearing the world of nuclear arsenal.
2) The conservative part officials have announced that the forth submarine is very much a spear of a spare. In other words it was never needed in the first place.
3) The final point to notice is that although the number of vessels is being reduced, the number of warheads remains untouched. Yet another cheap trick by the U.K to spin public opinion in their favour.

How infuriating! Iran abiding by the rules yet again . No one seems to be particularly upset about the fact that this intelligence that France, US and UK have been sitting on all this time was never shared with the IAEA. The IAEA does in fact rely on this sort of information as part of it monitoring and verification process. So if this information is so critical, one would have thought that it would have been shared with the IAEA long before now. The fact that they didn't just seems to underline that Iran is not in violation of its safeguards agreements by building a second enrichment plant - and they knew it. Notice how no one from the big media outlets ever refers to any specific agreements when they debate this issue- whatever happened to journalists asking informed questions? instead what we have on a 24 loop is the regurgitation of propaganda being fed to them by politicians!

Boy, the western media is defiantly making a meal of this, how little the western politicians know they’re onto an embarrassing looser with this one, with their so called “we have found the smoking gun” claim.
David Miliband had claimed that the “secret” site was penetrated and had been under monitor for some time, in other words their spies have been working hard, but yet to gain a whole lot of garbage as intelligence. He has further commented that the only solution to the Iran’s nuclear issue is that suggested by the Israeli official. Of course this is not the first time David Miliband has reiterated views of the Israeli officials.
Having proven to the international community that IRI has NOT been in violation of the NPT, IRI should, at an international stage, request for same level of inspection to apply to Israel and those other countries whose leaders claim that IRI must adhere to international rules. After all international rules must also apply internationally.
The shear hypocrisy and double standard of western politic must be reiterated time and time so that public opinion does not turn against Iran.
