As you may remember, no one really knows why the US attacked Iraq, since none of the official (and constantly changing) explanations make much sense, and neither do the assumptions/guesses. That's one mystery that historians will have to solve, perhaps.
But what if the war was really a religious war against Islam, a religious crusade in the exact meaning of that term? Well, it seems that Donald Rumsfeld and President Bush saw it that way, based on the Biblical quotes that Rumsfeld used on the cover pages of the Defense Secretary's Worldwide intelligence updates that he gave Bush everyday. GQ Magazine has displayed some of these cover pages, for our amusement, in a slide show entitled "Onward Christian Soldiers".
Now, just imagine the reaction if this sort religious-militaristic jingoism was found in official documents in Iran.
