PressTV reports Iran airport fiasco costs official his job
The Director General of Shiraz airport has been dismissed from his post for holding a plane en route from Shiraz to Tehran during take-off.Iran Air Flight 234 was stopped during take-off on Friday morning, so that the Iranian vice president for scientific and technology affairs, Sadeq Vaez-Zadeh, could board the plane.
The plane was scheduled for take-off at 10:45 am local time but finally took off at 11:17. The incident deeply shocked some 15 European tourists aboard the aircraft.
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad responded by issuing the boot order for Shiraz airport official Majid Hejazi.
Personally, I would have fired the late passenger rather than the airport director. But frankly, considering the hours I've spent on the tarmac in various US airports (I'm talking about you, American Airlines!) I'm not sure if an half-hour delay is worth firing anyone over! Those "shocked" Europeans on board should get a life.
I think it was the right decision to fire the airport official and not the VP. The VP is not expected to know the dangers of such action, the airport official is.
