The irony is too rich. An Israeli was arrested for traveling to Iran since visiting Iran is illegal under Israeli law, and much is made here of "Iranian intelligence services" being involved.
However, Iranian Jews regularly visit Israel, with the tacit knowledge of the Iranian government, who does not arrest them for doing so.
In fact, had the facts been reversed and Iran imprisoned an Iranian Jew for traveling to Israel and accused him of being involved with Israeli intelligence services, the Israeli press would be up in arms about "anti-Semitic show trials" etc. But apparently it is perfectly fine for the Israelis to arrest people for where they travel.
Remind me again -- which is the terrible nasty police state? After actually visiting Iran, Roger Cohen of the NY Times certainly didn't think Iranians were particularly nasty towards Jews -- much to the chagrin of the Zionists. Others who have visited Iran reached the same conclusion.
Could it be that Israel doesn't want to admit that the Jews of Iran are not all that alienated from their home country? After all, the idea that Jews in Iran (and everywhere else) face ceaseless, unending persecution except in the "Jewish Homeland" is one of the founding myths of Israel (just witness the "Yellow Badges for Jews" myth promoted in the US media by the NeoCons) ...so it had better be true, even if the Israeli agents themselves have to bomb and terrorize the Jews to convinced them to move to Israel (aka "Cruel Zionism")
